About Us
The Greek branch of GFR was established in 2018 and it soon established itself as a fast and trustworthy railway company in the filed of freight transportation
It all began in 2018
In 2018, GFR became interested in entering the Greek railway network in order to run freight trains within Greece. For this purpose, the Greek GFR branch was established in Piraeus, Greece. Soon, two diesel – electric MLW A 451 series locomotives were leased. Thus, preparations began for the company to start operating in Greece.
Soon after, GFR Hellas signed a contract with OSE to access and use the Greek railway infrastructure. The relevant authorization to run freight trains in Greece was also received by RAS.
Our first train ran in 2022, signaling the official entry of GFR in the local market. To this day, GFR Hellas actively runs freight trains in northern Greece, creating connections to all of Europe, emphasizing in the Balkans.
For the past six years, GFR Hellas is also certified with a “Single Safety Certificate” by the European Railway Agency (ERA). This allows us to operate in more than one country, while also introduced systems such as the STE (Electronic Consignment Notes) and Trasa Expert, which optimize the freight routes, estimated time of arrival and other tools that improve effectiveness and the overall cargo monitoring.
